Where did the term “vetting” come from?
To vet was originally a term used in the horse races. The top gamblers would always bet on the horses who had been checked by a veterinarian or “vetted” prior to a race. Of course…there are many versions of this story. Regardless,  over time the term was adapted by law enforcement and the intelligence communities.
